Summer 2025 Program Schedule

Location: The Park La Brea Activities Center, 475 S. Curson West

  • Fun with Drama (1 Week-Long Program) - Participant ages 6 to 9

    In this enjoyable drama class, we’ll discover movement and voice for the stage, while experimenting with feelings and universal gesture and expression.  We’ll read enchanting, exciting stories from all over the globe, as we explore character development and themes.  Discover mythical creatures, animals, wizards and very human characters, too!  Develop confidence, stage presence and your own sense of theatrical creativity as you learn to collaborate with your partners and express your inner actor through fun games and exercises.

    Play Creation (2 Week Long Program) - Participant ages 7 to 11

    Let’s develop and adapt a tale or fable and bring it to life for our family and friends! Together, we’ll study and analyze a story as we learn to identify characters, feelings, plot twists and turns and uncover the moral of the story and how it relates to our lives while creating our own play.  We’ll learn some grounding and focusing exercises and some fun theater games too, to help us with character development and theatrical expression. Students will learn lines and how to follow stage directions.  This class promotes communication, collaboration, self-confidence and creativity. 

    Characters on Parade - Participant ages 6 to 9

    In this lively drama class, we’ll explore many kinds of characters in stories from all around the world. We’ll act out characters in group and individual exercises and express which ones are our favorites and why. Wizards, fairies, crocodiles, owls and many more! Through music and games, we’ll discover many types of feelings through theatrical movement and gesture. This class promotes communication, collaboration, self-confidence and creativity. Students will create THEIR VERY OWN in-depth character complete with mask and costume to unveil for family and friends on the last day of class.

  • My child has no theater experience; which class would you recommend?

    All classes are open to all levels, from the beginner to the more seasoned actor.

    What is the class size?

    Classes will be limited to 8-10 students in order to give students a full, nurturing environment.

    My child is not within the determined age group.  Can they still take the class? 

    Classes are designed for a specific age group, but some exceptions are allowed. Please email me for further inquiries. 

    Can my child take both the Fun with Drama and Play Creation classes on the same day?

    Students can take both classes, but there is no supervised break between classes, so a parent or guardian would have to pick the student up between classes for the full ½ hour break.

    Is there a sign-in sheet?

    Parents/guardians are required to sign in and sign out students at the beginning and end of each class. 

    Is there a performance at the end of each class?

    For the Play Creation classes, there is a performance on the last day of class.  There is also a performance for the Creating Characters class in August. There are no performances for the Fun with Drama classes. 

    Is there a late fee for pick-up? 

    There is no supervised staff for students after class.  Please promptly pick up your child at the dismissal time.There is a $2.00 per minute fee for late pick ups. 

    What does my child need to bring/wear?

    It’s important that students wear loose, comfortable clothing and footwear for movement exercises. Please supply your child with water. No snacks are allowed in the classroom space. 

    Is there a parent/guardian orientation?

    For the first 5-10 minutes of each new session, please attend a friendly, short meet and greet where we will go over rules and expectations of the class.

    Is there a sibling discount?

    Please email me for a 10% sibling discount if you have more than one child taking a class per session.

    Will you be adding other age groups in the future?

    Yes, the adult program will start up again in the fall!

    Participant(s) Age: Ages 7-11

    Description: Let’s develop and adapt a tale or fable and bring it to life for our family and friends!     Description: Dramatic play invites family members to express our creative selves, and by practicing cooperation, sharing, and problem solving, we’ll flex these crucial life skills together. In this fun, introductory drama class, we’ll discover fantastic fables and terrific tales from all around the world, and using our faces, bodies and voices, we’ll bring these stories to life. We’ll explore storytelling through music, movement, and rhythm. This class promotes the development of literacy skills and critical thinking.

Family Theater Workshop

This 90-minute workshop includes games and exercises that introduce the whole family to theater skills through movement, breathing, feelings, character, voice and communication. When we’re all warmed up, we’ll perform a story together!
